Educational Sessions
"Let's Play with Eco Monsters"
Duration: 45-60 min.
Max. number of participants: 30
Recommended age: preschoolers, grades 1-4
What do we do?
This is a board game designed for preschoolers and primary school students. During the game, players meet 6 monsters, each of which likes a different type of waste. By rolling the dice and moving their pieces across the game board, players must feed the monsters only their preferred waste and reach the finish line without waste tokens in their hands. By making mistakes and correctly feeding the monsters, children learn to distinguish types of waste and sort them correctly. First in the game, then in real life.
Good to Know
This is an off-site session conducted at your premises, so tables and chairs are required. One game can be played by 6 players, so if there are more children in the class, we divide them into groups (we have as many games as needed). The game lasts at least 45 minutes, as the rules need to be explained, and if the children are younger, it may take longer, about 1 hour.

Tours
DGASA (Large Waste Collection Sites)
Duration: 45-60 min.
Max. number of participants: 25
Recommended age: grades 1-8
What do we do?
We walk around the waste site and learn about the waste management system, what types of waste arrive here, their quantities, and where they go afterward. We learn why waste is sorted. At the end, we visit the reuse station "Atiduotuvė," where people can leave and take good but no longer needed items for free. Children can look around and take an item if they find something suitable and truly need it. "Atiduotuvės" are created to prevent items from becoming waste and to give them a chance to continue their life in someone else's hands.

Kaunas MBA (Mechanical-Biological Waste Treatment Facilities)
Duration: 60 min.
Max. number of participants: 20
Recommended age: grades 5-12 and adults
What do we do?
We visit a waste sorting factory where mixed waste from the entire Kaunas region is processed. We learn about the waste management system, see how garbage trucks arrive and where they unload waste. We walk along metal walkways between conveyors and various waste sorting machines, each with a function to separate certain sizes or materials from the general flow. We visit the engineer's office, from where the entire factory is controlled. We also meet workers who finish the sorting process by hand. We see how sorted secondary raw materials become a product – compressed plastic stored under a roof, waiting for its turn to be recycled. We hope that by learning about the waste sorting process, people will strive to sort more responsibly and consume a little less.
Good to Know
During the tour, a waste odor may be noticeable, so for your comfort, you may bring face masks. It is also recommended to wear simpler clothing and footwear.

Kaunas Regional Non-Hazardous Waste Landfill (Lapės, Kaunas District)
Duration: 1 hour
Max. number of participants: 30
Recommended age: grades 9-12 and adults
What do we do?
During the tour, we learn about the waste management system in Lithuania, how many landfills there were before joining the European Union, and what has changed since becoming a member. We examine a landfill model made in 2009 and compare it with the current real view, noting the differences in waste quantities. We learn how the landfill operates, why waste is compacted and covered with soil layers. We discuss what happens in the landfill when it rains and over time as waste decomposes. We view the landfill from the side, see the section where waste is currently being dumped, and other infrastructure near the landfill – a large waste shredding site and a waste storage site. If weather conditions are favorable, we also walk on the landfill mound. We also learn what waste was dumped here during the Soviet era when the Lapės landfill began operating and what life was like here relatively recently when people did not sort their waste.
Good to Know
Depending on weather conditions, access to certain parts of the landfill may not be possible. For time-saving purposes, it is recommended to drive to the landfill for viewing from the side using the transport you arrived in. Footwear that you do not mind getting dirty is recommended, and rubber boots may be brought.

Tours are also organized at the green waste and composting site in Kaunas and at the Zabieliškis (Kėdainiai District) waste management complex (landfill, waste sorting facilities, green waste site in one place).
